Christmas Turkey Shoot

Every year as we approach Christmas the Club holds the "Turkey Shoot" at the Walled Garden. The event is a fun shoot with a limited number of shooters open to BAPRC Members (remember to register to shoot) and is an FT style event. Please note No Turkeys are actually involved in the shoot, the name is derived from the historical first prize for the winner which in the very early days of the club was actually a Oven Ready turkey for their Christmas Celebrations. Over the years the first prize has morphed into a gift voucher to be exchanged for a Turkey at the local supermarket to now a generic groceries gift voucher.

2022 Report

The club was really pleased to be able to run the Turkey Shoot again at the Walled Garden. Weather was not kind with a cold, damp, misty day, however the shooters spirits shone through and every one had a good shoot. We had 16 shooters take part and afterwards enjoyed a cuppa and mince pies as well as some amazing home made cakes kindly cooked and donated by a member. Congrats to the top 3 shooters in each discipline and good to know Dave Godwin wont be eating Jam and crusty end sandwiches on his Christmas Day.  Great to see many of our new club members taking part in their first and hopefully not last club shoot.

Congratulations to all who took part and thanks to the members who set the course out.

2021 Report

In 2021 the decision was made that the Turkey shoot should be returned to being held at the walled garden, however due to Covid it was unable to be held. A Christmas shoot at Popham was organised in order to get members together to celebrate Christmas (in a safe, well spaced outdoor environment) which jokingly became known at "Not The Turkey Shoot"

2020 Report

Despite COVID-19 we managed to arrange a small Turkey shoot. This was held at Popham Woods unlike normally at the walled garden. Holding the shoot at Popham allowed us to ensure well over 2m social distancing and maximum safety for the members shooting. Numbers where low due to COVID and the weather being very unkind and giving us a rainy and blustery day. The hit up / knock down pink targets we had used for the summer where all removed and a complete new 20 lane (40 targets) course put out which was spread across the old FT and HFT courses. These where the traditional Nockover targets with cord resets. However all cords had been fitted with a brass ring and each pair of shooters was issued a club "line reset handle" aka a tent peg puller. One member of the pair scored for both shooters and the other member carried the reset tool and reset all targets. These simple changes ensured no one touched the strings and scores cards where not passed back and forth.
