George Wedge was a very long standing club member who sadly died from cancer. He was probably one of the most friendly people you could meet and had his own special seat on the range, spending hours plinking using mostly custom finished rifles. The idea of the George Wedge Commemorative Shoot is for an event which will allow the club to remember both George as well as three other 'serving' members' whose names also appear on the trophy. These being Dave Chapman, another regular plinker, Mike Herod (our former Treasurer and membership secretary) and Ron Welch.
As George mostly enjoyed plinking, the format is a plinking course with no real stipulations on what could be shot or what position is shot from.
The George Wedge Commemorative Shoot "Rules" and Format
The course consists of 30 targets some being normal knock up/knock down and some being cord reset targets. In addition we have some out of the ordinary targets which may also include: Polo mints at 30 paces, Coffee stirrers, Bells, Match sticks, Empty shotgun cartridges, Playing cards 'edge on', 'Round the bend', The 'cone zone'. etc
Entry is by way of a minimum £5.00 donation and as always you are welcome to donate more if you wish. Tea, coffee and probably biscuits and cake will be available after the shoot. A Key component of the Shoot ensures that a club member can only win the main trophy once, thus giving anyone the chance of winning. Past winners scores are not counted in the main shoot, however they do compete against each other in a separate "Masters" category. The winner of the perpetual trophy will have their name engraved on the winners plaque and also receive a smaller replica which they will keep as a memento. Medals will also be presented in second and third place in the open category. All previous winners entering into the 'Master Class', receiving a separate trophy. Each years winner gets to nominate a charity of their choice for which the club will donate the money to. The club often endeavors to top up the donation via proceeds from the Old Basing have a go day.
